How You Can Partner With Us This Summer

It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over. Since I started working in Allendale last year, my jobs (and our families schedules) have gone through a variety of changes and adjustments, as follows:

  1. From the after school program (January – May 2011),
  2. To the related summer camp (June – August 2011),
  3. Back to after school programming (September – December 2011),
  4. And then up to four jobs (January – May 2012).

Even now, things are under transition. Football spring practice will start next week, and that commitment will ramp up through the summer. And I am working on what other employment I will have in the fall (I turned down an offer to remain at Patrick Henry Academy, knowing that our hearts are in Allendale).

Summer Plans

Our main focus now is getting ready for the summer. We are excited for opportunities, which you can read more about here. You can contact me if you want to be involved hands-on in Allendale this summer. We are working on plans to provide fun programs and enriching experiences for kids.

But whether or not you can be here, there are three other ways that you can support us in our plans: Family Support, Ministry-Specific Support, and Special Items.

Family Support

We are dependent on (and thankful for!) the donations given on our behalf. Whether I’ve had 1, 2, or 4 jobs, they’ve always been part-time, and we’ve needed the extra income. On the positive end, the jobs I’ve had have allowed some flexibility for us, and the financial support has been a way for people to partner with us in God’s work here in Allendale.

But this summer, I will not have much paid work. My job with the schools will be limited in scope, and the programs we provide will not involve paid staff. This is where you can come in.

We have almost 30 families and individuals who donate each month, and we are not asking any of you to give anything extra for our family (but see below if you want to support our summer ministry). Thank you for your continued faithfulness.

But other than that, if you have given once or twice or a few times in the past year (or not at all), this would be a great time to make a one-time donation. I figure that we’ll need an extra $3000 in support to cover us through the summer, but I already know that someone has given $1000 to this cause. Would you prayerfully consider providing part of the $2000 we expect to need? A one-time gift of 25, 50, or 100 dollars would be a huge blessing. You can see our Financial Support page for more information.

Ministry-Specific Support

We hope to offer very low-cost programming for the summer, but are in need of basic items like school supplies, snacks, crafts, prizes, etc. In the past, we have had collections for these items, but the transportation of these items from Greenville to Allendale has been challenging, especially when under time constraints.

If you want to help provide supplies for the summer, here are some feasible options, all of which have been done in the past.

  • Write a check directly to us or send gift cards (Wal-Mart and Staples are best). Let me know if you need our mailing address.
  • Make a donation (as on our Financial Support page), but let me know that the donation is for summer programming.
  • Purchase needed items (we can talk), and have them shipped directly to us.

Special Items

I’m not sure about everything else that we may need for the summer. But I’m thinking some new or gently used board games will be very handy. Feel free to suggest any ideas that you may have.

Final Thoughts

If you do plan on making a donation (either for our family or for the summer program), please let me know by email so that we can plan our budget accordingly. And if you make a monetary gift (either as a donation or directly to us), please let us know if that is for our family, our ministry, or wherever needed.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
